Monthly Goals Update and This Week's Goals

I am feeling good about what I've gotten done this week.  When it comes to my monthly goals I already have a few things marked off.

For one, I mulled and canned the apple cider (seen up top).  FINALLY!!!

As mulled cider goes it came out okay.  Not great as the fresh stuff does, as the fresh cider definitely has more depth of flavor, but it's not bad by any stretch.  So, yay for getting that done!

I finished one Christmas gift today (more on that later) and got a couple more in the works.  I also figured out what I want to make for my new nephew and made sure I had the materials to do that.  And I even managed to get a few pieces of mending done today.

I ground my wheat to use in baked goods.

The chickens were supposed to go home today, but my friend ended up calling it off for today as she was super sore from moving and taking a fall on the ice today (which I totally understand).  So our feathered friends are with me for a few more days from the look of it.

I'm happy with how much I got done in a few days worth of time, I have to say.

Now onto this week's goals:

Canning/Food Preservation Goals:
  • Make canned coleslaw (I am pretty sure I found enough jars to get this done and I have the head of cabbage in the fridge, so yay!).
  • Make small gift basket of canned goods as a house warming gift for my friend (she's really good to us, including giving us a really expensive CPAP machine that she has an extra of, so I want to do something nice for her to congratulate her on her new home).
Sewing Goals:
  • Work on Christmas gifts
  • Work on Mending
  • Work on couches
General Goals:
  • Sort laundry and put away
  • Clean ceiling fans
  • Scrub children's walls

And there you are folks.  My goals for this week.  How about you?  Got anything planned?

  1. Wow, sounds like you got a lot done! Good for you!

My plans for the week include cleaning the condo as I'm hosting my bookclub next week, baking for said bookclub, and working on my blog. I wrote an e-book on using substitutions in the kitchen this week and figured out how to send it to new subscribers, so I'm going to work on promoting that using mailchimp (there's a steep learning curve with this. But that's what goals are for!).

  2. Hi Erika,
You sure got a lot accomplished. This week I hope to spend a huge amount of time doing Christmas gifts. I found a super easy clutch bag pattern in an old magazine the I've cut out about 6 of them from scraps of fabric. They're so cute. I also cut out smaller versions to be little change purses to go in them. So that's on my plate for today (I hope.). Menu planning is a must to make the best use out of the pantry and freezer. I'm trying to stay out of the grocery stores for the next few weeks.
All the usual housework will get done, and I think that's it for me. Glad you and the family are feeling better. Dorothy

  3. I wish I could sew, I feel like I could make so many nice inexpensive gifts if I could.

Today, for some reason, I have started panicing about money, and Christmas gifts and all. And its weird, because I have been trying to do a lot better this year with spending, and I think I have done better, and chances are that I am in better shape than this time last year but I still have this intense worry over money, in general. Maybe part of it is the reminder our cars are 10, 12 and 13 years old, and starting to get a little more needy. At least I am working a little, so socking away about $100 month towards that. I have to remember the small wins!!

I have a load of weekly goals, finishing loom knitting 2 kid scarves, start the one for my husband, get a little work done on the striped baby blanket I am attempting for my cousin, getting the house in shape (hah!!) And pulling out the Christmas just to sort through so I can see what I don't want, and what I might be able to use for the church Christmas party . Small goals, because I have so much regular to do, I don't want to be too ambitious!

    Your cider looks so pretty!!!

  4. Your cider looks really yummy. It's going to taste really great this winter. I have never heard of canned coleslaw. I would be interested in hearing more about how you do this and how it turns out. From your posts, you must be feeling better or at least I hope you are. Have a great week Erika! Paula in Kansas

  5. You sound like your feeling much more like yourself, Erika. So glad your feeling better. I'm glad you finally canned the mulled apple cider. I know that's been on your list for a while. It must feel good to check it off the list finally!

This week my mom and I are going to the passport office to get our passports updated before they expire. The office is about an hour away, so it will take up a good chunk of the day. We might also stop and do some shopping in the area, just because we don't go shopping there often.

I am going to finally get some raspberry jam made and canned up this week. I might also pull the cherries and some rhubarb to try a couple batches of cherry rhubarb jam. I saw it on Pinterest and thought it sounded interesting.

On Friday, my mom and I will be taking my daughter over to the cenotaph for the Remembrance Day parade and ceremony. The rest of the grade 7 & 8 students will be walking over, but my daughter refuses to walk. Although she finds it "boring", I want her to attend anyways. I think it is very important to honor the memory of the soldiers who fought and dies for our freedom. Some day I hope she, too, will understand the importance of this.

I hope to maybe get going on some Christmas gifts this week. It would be nice if I even got some organized with the first steps completed. That's about it for this week. Hope you get your wish list this week accomplished!
